In Deccember 2022, I purchased an item online after seeing an advert on Facebook in my feed. Months later I discovered I had been scammed. Luckily for me, it was only $50 but what if it had been more. It got me thinking about buying on Facebook.
I have no doubt that seeing the advert on Facebook gave it some extra weight, but how far from the truth this is. Facebook is only interest in the advertisers’ dollars. It doesn’t care about the baseless advertiser claims, and neither it should until a reader tells Facebook that the advertiser is a scammer.
The item has never arrived.
How To Buy On Facebook
Here is what I do with every item on Facebook. It also helps slow down my thought process and adds “due diligence”.
- Click on the Shop now | Learn more link
- If on the APP, open in browser (… bottom right)
- Send yourself the link (Share icon)
- Open email and click on link.
1. Google company name + Review or go to scam-detector.com or Trustpilot*
2. Copy the product name and check it on Amazon or eBay - Buy local
Top tips
- Never buy on Facebook before doing your due diligence, regardless of how good it looks or costs
