Horrible Holes

I found this researching how we should optimise internal links to avoid what the author calls 'horrible holes'.

how I hate horrible holes

Any link off your site is a hole.

Any link to a internal page that doesn't link back is a hole.

Affiliate links are horrible holes.

All in all linking to any page a search engine doesn't need to see (like a user profile, etc) is a hole.

You can plug holes, or you can out number them with links pointing back into your site.
